Sorry it took so long for us to upload these photos from Jose Parla’s – Layered Days exhibition @ Cristina Grajales. Ummm… we were returning some videotapes.

Here is a great interview from Spraygraphic with one of our favorite artists, Kenji Nakayama:

WWW.FYCGALLERY.COM highly recommends you go check out The Adam and Ron Show at Elms Lesters Gallery (www.elmslesters.co.uk) in London.  Amazing works by both Adam Neate and Ron English.  The best exhibition we’ve seen all year!

FYC just got back from a great trip across the pond to London.  Here are some photo highlights:

FYC IN SF

April 14, 2008

Had some free time today so went to the SFMOMA.  While the exhibitions didn’t excite us much we were impressed by two things:

1. How are those white frames made for the Lee Friedlander works.  And where can you get them.  There were no seams!  Anal-retentive framers like us need to know.

2. Browsing in the museum store we were very happy to street/urban art related books displayed prominently in the ‘Art Movement’ section. It was validating to see this in an institution of this caliber

The first auction dedicated solely to Urban Art occurred at Bonhams in London on February 5th.

Banksy – Kate Moss screenprint  £96,000

Banksy – Laugh Now canvas  £74,400

Adam Neate – The Apprentice  £43,200

Let me start by saying… I am a big pussy. I wanted to open a physical art gallery in Chicago focusing on contemporary artists. After an exhaustive search for suitible locations, developing a anally-retentive detailed business plan, and crunching a ton of financials – I came to the unfortunate conclusion it didn’t make much sense to leave my cushy job and risk it all. The sad thing is I really wanted to stop being a corporate stooge and do what I’m truly passionate about.

That brings us to the present… http://www.fycgallery.com/ is our way of ‘dipping our toe in the water’. Hopefully, things go well and we can justify taking it to the next level by getting actual gallery space.

So what exactly is FYC Gallery??? We look at ourselves as an outlet – a place to be introduced to some of the most cutting-edge contemporary artists; a place for artists, progressive collectors & vagabonds to meet, chat, argue, and further this thing we call art; and also a place to buy some absolutely incredible pieces of art.

We realize that everyone and their momma thinks they are an art dealer these days so our mantra is simple. We only carry artists that we strongly believe in and also personally collect. We aren’t in this for the money – although my gf does like regular pedicures/manicures & I’m kinda a dining/wine snob – but that’s not saying we won’t take your money!

Welcome and enjoy.
